Recently, the Washington Post rated our Colliano Cuvee White 2013 as “more than excellent” and one of the top 5 wines to drink right now.

Here is their assessment:

“Here’s one for bottle hunters: It will be hard to find, but it is worth seeking out. A blend of Ribolla Gialla, chardonnay and sauvignonasse grapes, it is electric with red fruit flavors of currants and raspberries. It also features a racy acidity that gives it an ephemeral character. Truly delightful. ABV: 13 percent”.

Ribolla Gialla by Klet Brda becomes White Wine Champion

The 2013 Bagueri Superior Ribolla Gialla by Klet Brda triumphed over all the dry white wines at the Vino Slovenija wine competition in Gornja Radgona. Klet Brda is also particularly pleased with this Champion title in the light of its 60th anniversary celebrated this year, which emphasises the cellar’s devotion to Ribolla Gialla ever since its first harvest in 1957.

“The grapes for the 2013 Bagueri Superior Ribolla Gialla were grown in selected vineyards which best suit this variety–i.e. located on the sunlit tops of the hills. The grapevines thrive in the typical marly soil of Brda, which is reflected in the wine’s pronounced mineral touch,” explained Klet Brda oenologist Darinko Ribolica. The Bagueri Superior Ribolla Gialla is left to mature in huge elliptical Slavonian oak barrels. According to the oenologist, the specific shape of these barrels, together with the characteristics of the oak wood, enables the wines to best express the Brda terroir. “In January 2017, the 2013 Bagueri Superior Ribolla Gialla won a gold medal at the prestigious Vinalies Internationales competition in Paris, telling us early in the year that we have made a great wine with worldwide potential. Later on, the wine was awarded another, a silver, medal at the Concours Mondial Bruxelles and was crowned Champion at the national competition,” continued Ribolica.

Currently, Klet Brda is the largest producer of Ribolla Gialla in the world. This grapevine variety has been cultivated, researched and supported by the cellar since its very beginnings. The future of this variety, which has been largely unknown so far, has been attracting the interest of wine experts, producers and lovers. Silvan Peršolja, Director of Klet Brda: “Ribolla Gialla may be seen by some as an alternative to Prosecco, a global best seller. It has been planted in enormous quantities on the plains of neighbouring Italy. This kind of Ribolla has nothing to do with the authentic Ribolla Gialla grown in extreme locations, i.e. steep hillsides covered with marl, where it produces excellent results, attested also by this year’s awards.”
